The Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre, SCB Medical College and Hospital, organized a felicitation ceremony on June 14, World Blood Donors Day, to honour blood donors who helped the victims of the Balasore-Bahanaga train accident. The event was conducted under the guidance of Professor Dr Smita Mahapatra, Head of the Transfusion Medicine Department, and many regular blood donors, including medical students and faculties, were felicitated by the chief guest Souvik Biswal, MLA, Choudwar-Cuttack. Dean & Principal of SCB MCH Professor Dr Prasenjeet Mohanty and Superintendent Professor Dr Sudhanshu Sekhar Mishra were the guest of honour and encouraged the audience to donate blood frequently. About 150 delegates from different fraternities attended this ceremony. Dr Susmita Behera, Associate Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine, delivered the vote of thanks for this event to all dignitaries assembled. It was heartening to see many medical students and faculties joining a rally to spread awareness of blood donation among the common public. Such initiatives will help create a culture of voluntary blood donation and can save many lives in times of emergencies as well as patients needing transfusion support.
