Departmental Overview :
1. Government of Odisha has created this department with an aim to provide state of art patient care, academics and quality research in the field of Pulmonary diseases and Tuberculosis.
2. Government of Odisha declared this department as Centre of excellence (CoE) for Pulmonary diseases and CoE for post Covid management.
3. This department caters different Pulmonary and Tubercular diseases referred from various institutions of Odisha.
4. The Superspeciality department of Pulmonary Medicine offers DM Course in Pulmonary Medicine of SCB Medical College which was started from 2020 with intake of 2 students.
5. Certified Respiratory technician course was started in 2022 with 20 students per year with aim to provide para-medical support in the field of Pulmonary diseases and ICU care for the state of Odisha.
6. Multiple ICMR projects and multi-centric international research studies for pulmonary diseases, tubercular diseases and critical care are conducted in the Superspeciality Department of Pulmonary medicine.
7. As regards to National tuberculosis elimination programme, this department imparts training to doctors of the state, actively involve by task force mechanism for
elimination of tuberculosis.
8. The Superspeciality department of Pulmonary Medicine act as a knowledge sharing in the field of Interventional pulmonology for the Pulmonologists of different medical colleges.
9. In the recent future this department with the help of Cardio-thoracic surgery department will provide surgery for Tubercular and non -tubercular pulmonary diseases.

Facilities Available Including Investigation :
1. Diagnosis and management of patient attending to OPD
2. Different clinics namely sleep clinic, interstitial lung disease clinic, lung cancer and tobacco cessation clinic with a facility for counselling in the counselor room adjacent to the OPD.
3. Emergency service for OPD patients is provided in emergency room situated adjacent to the OPD.
4. Indoor facility with capacity of 20 chest beds, 14 TB beds and 6 thoracic surgery beds. All beds are having monitoring facility.
5. 10 ICU beds and 3 step down beds with negative pressure facility are available in the department for managing critically ill pulmonary patients and post thoracic surgery patients.
6. Modular OT for thoracic surgery and interventional pulmonology exist in this department.
7. High end pulmonary function lab available for diagnosis of different pulmonary diseases and evaluation of patients who will undergo thoracic surgery.
8. Sleep lab with CPAP titration facility is available in this department for diagnosis of Sleep related pulmonary diseases.
9. Endobronchial ultrasonography(EBUS)bronchoscopy for diagnosis of mediastinal diseases, staging of lung cancer, and peripheral lung lesions.
10. C -arm is available for guided lung biopsy
11. Point of care Ultrasonography for patients with pleural and lung diseases.
12. Argon plasma coagulation, Electrocautery is available for interventional bronchoscopy procedures.
13. Continuous renal replacement therapy(CRRT) is available in ICU for management of patients developing renal complications.
14. For ICU training of doctors and paramedical staffs different types of mannequins are available.
15. Pulmonary rehabilitation facilities are available for patients of post TB lung disease, post Covid patients, COPD and interstitial lung disease.
